Privacy Policy

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password (or an identifier from a sign-in provider if you use one). This lets you save progress and sync it across devices.

Profile information. You can optionally add a display name, a short bio, and a profile photo. If you choose a photo, the app asks for permission to open your photo library and uploads only the image you pick. Profile photos are stored in our media storage and are served from a link that is not guessable but is publicly reachable, which is what lets your picture appear next to your name elsewhere in the app. Please see “What other learners can see” below.

Learning progress. We store your course progress, completed lessons, streaks, spaced repetition (SRS) review state, and daily goals so your learning continues seamlessly across sessions and devices.

Usage analytics. We record product analytics events, for example which lessons are started or completed, where learners get stuck, and general app performance. Some of these events are stored in our own database and some are sent to PostHog, our analytics provider. These events are associated with your account identifier rather than your name, so they are pseudonymous rather than anonymous: we can tell that the same account did two things, and we can link that account back to you. We use this to improve the lessons, not to profile you.

Speech features (optional). If you use speaking or pronunciation exercises, short audio clips are sent to our servers and to Google Cloud Speech-to-Text purely to transcribe and score your attempt. Audio is processed for that purpose and is not used to identify you.

Notifications. If you turn on reminders, we store a push notification token for your device, along with the platform it runs on, so we can send practice reminders. Turning notifications off in your device settings stops them.

Purchase information. If you buy a subscription, the purchase is processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and managed through RevenueCat. We receive your subscription status and a purchase identifier. We do not collect or store your full payment card details.

Sikhna has social features: friends, leaderboards, and public learner profiles. If you use them, other people using Sikhna can see your display name, your profile photo, your bio, and your learning stats such as XP and streak. Your email address, your lesson answers, and your purchase history are never shown to other learners.

If you would rather not be identifiable, use a display name that is not your real name and skip the profile photo. You can change or remove either at any time in the app under Profile → Edit profile.

• We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to anyone.
• We do not use third-party advertising networks or ad-tracking SDKs.
• We do not build advertising profiles or share your data with advertisers.
• We do not access your contacts or your location. We access your photo library only at the moment you choose a profile picture, and only the picture you select is uploaded.
• We do not run a third-party crash-reporting SDK inside the app. Apple and Google may share crash and performance reports with us through their own developer tools if you have allowed that in your device settings.

• To provide, maintain, and sync your learning experience.
• To save your progress, streaks, and review schedule.
• To show you on friends lists and leaderboards you take part in.
• To process and validate subscriptions and entitlements.
• To understand how the app is used and improve lessons and features.
• To send the practice reminders you have asked for.

We rely on a small set of trusted providers to operate Sikhna. Each only receives the data needed for its function:

• Supabase: secure storage of your account, profile, progress, and learning data, including profile photos.
• RevenueCat: managing subscriptions and entitlements.
• PostHog: product analytics.
• Google Cloud: speech-to-text and text-to-speech for audio features.
• Expo: delivery of push notifications to your device.
• Apple App Store / Google Play: payment processing for subscriptions.

You can delete your account from inside the app at any time: Profile → Settings → Delete account. You will be asked to type DELETE and confirm with your password. This permanently removes your account, your learning progress, and your stored profile photo. It cannot be undone.

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play. Cancel that separately in your store account, or you will continue to be billed.

We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain records (for example, for tax or legal purposes). Aggregated analytics that can no longer be tied back to you may be retained.

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with industry-standard safeguards. While no system is perfectly secure, we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

You can access, correct, export, or delete your personal data by contacting us, and you can delete your account yourself in the app. Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to object to or restrict certain processing. We honor verified requests.

Sikhna is intended for teens and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
