Terms of Service

Effective date: July 29, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Sikhna (“Sikhna,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) covering the Sikhna mobile app and the sikhna.app website (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Who can use Sikhna

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country, to create an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use Sikhna with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these terms.

You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe someone else has access to it.

What Sikhna provides

Sikhna teaches Punjabi in the Gurmukhi script through lessons, graded stories, spaced-repetition review, and audio. We add, change, and occasionally remove course content and features as the app develops. We do not promise any particular learning outcome, fluency level, exam result, or that a specific lesson or story will remain available forever.

Punjabi audio in the app is synthesized by a text-to-speech system rather than recorded by a human narrator, and pronunciation scoring is automated. Both are learning aids, not an assessment by a qualified teacher.

Your account and your content

You can add a display name, a bio, and a profile photo. You keep ownership of what you upload. You give us permission to store and display that content inside the Service, including to other learners on friends lists, leaderboards, and public profiles, for as long as you keep it on your account.

Do not upload or use as a display name anything that:

  • is unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, or violent;
  • impersonates another person or misrepresents your affiliation with anyone;
  • infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark, or privacy; or
  • contains someone else’s personal information.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. You can report a profile or ask us to review one by emailing [email protected].

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • copy, scrape, republish, or resell our lessons, stories, audio, or other course content;
  • reverse engineer the app, or try to bypass entitlement checks, usage quotas, or paywalls;
  • use automated means to hammer our servers or our speech features, or otherwise interfere with the Service for others;
  • use the Service to build a competing dataset or language model.

Subscriptions and payment

Sikhna is free to use, with an optional paid plan, Sikhna Pro, available as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Current prices are shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency.

Purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, not by us. Payment is charged to your store account at confirmation. Auto-renewing subscriptions renew for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and your store account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the period ending.

You manage and cancel a subscription in your store account settings, not in Sikhna. Deleting your Sikhna account does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies; we cannot issue store refunds directly, but we will help where we can.

We may change prices or what is included in Sikhna Pro. Changes apply to future billing periods, never retroactively, and we will give notice where required.

For purchases made through the App Store, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Where it conflicts with these terms for those purchases, it governs.

Our content

The Sikhna app, its lessons, stories, audio, illustrations, name, and logo are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and trademark law. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use them for your own language learning. Everything not expressly granted is reserved.

Ending your use of Sikhna

You can stop at any time and delete your account in the app under Profile → Settings → Delete account. That permanently removes your account, your progress, and your profile photo, and cannot be undone.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms, that is used fraudulently, or where we are required to by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that content will always be accurate or available offline.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sikhna will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, revenue, or profits. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty-five US dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by negligence.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the Service changes. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and, for material changes, give notice in the app or by email. Continuing to use Sikhna after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and the courts located in New York will have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live.
